Winter blues

Wish this was my day...

...instead of this:

It's snowing! Again. And it's windy and freezing! What else is new? This winter is starting to get on my nerves.

End of rant.

Outside of the Institute of Archaeology and history at the university, wearing: Jean Paul Femme army green parka, grey beanie from Accessorize, grey scarf from VaVite, black jeans from H&M, black leather bag from Topshop, long grey woollen socks from Cubus and Hunter wellies in the color Merlot (brownish burgundy).

Smurfin' it

Apparently, Liv Tyler, the face of G-Star Raw's SS 2010 campaign, caused a stir when she turned up for their show at NYFW yesterday, dressed like an electric blue lightning bolt. While I see many comments around the net saying bright tights should be reserved for children, I think she still pulls it off here. But maybe that's just because she's just so beautiful anyway? I believe my days of brightly colored tights to be long gone, like, say 25 years ago or something? But tights or not, I still like the electric blue color. Before Christmas, I got a dress from H&M online in a similar hue:

Silly me though, I bought it only for the color, not thinking the purchase properly through first. As it is, this dress ties at the back with a huge bow, and that is just sooooo not me. I've never managed to look any good in "girlie" clothes with bows, frills and such.

I wore it once during Christmas, and felt so uncomfortable I decided even before I took it off for the night that the dress had no right to occupy space in my closet. So when the weather allows me to take it outside on the terrasse to photograph in daylight to get better pictures, I'll put it up for sale on some auction site, either Ebay or qxl.

The one thing that'll be left in my wardrobe in this color, apart from some jewellery, will then be a pair of ballerinas from LaRedoute:

Now, these are keepers. As soon as it's safe to pack the winter boots away, I'll brush the dust off my blue suede shoes, put on some grey tights or jeans, and submit my application to join the Smurfs.

Louis Vuitton SS 2010 rain bags

The "Raindrop Besace" will be released in March. Do we like these bags or not? The jury seems to be out at the moment.

But if the verdict comes back positive, one of these plastic bags with shoulder straps and fluorecent pull strings can be ours for the mere sum of USD1960. Yes, you read that right. One-thousand-nine-hundred-and-sixty-dollars. That's all.

Bianco Hummel collection launches February 25th

From the pictures in the press release, the collaboration between Bianco and Hummel looks to have produced some quite cool sneakers. Launch will be February 25th in all Bianco stores. Might be worth checking out if new sneakers for spring are needed? (Pictures by Bianco).

Department store fashion show

So my friend couldn't make it, and I asked a total stranger to take my picture in Oslo's main street Karl Johan, with the department store in the background. Looks undeniably like I picked the wrong photographer here.  Guess after winning those tickets yesterday, I ran out of luck. Hope it doesn't last for long. :)

Anway, I'm wearing a black military inspired wool coat with brass buttons, from a brand called Daite. It's three years old, so I guess I was a bit early on the military trend. Black jeans from H&M, red hat with sequins from Accessorize, studded black suede boots from Steve Madden, black leather bag from Topshop and a khaki colored scarf which I got last week from Kameleon, a small store carrying mainly Scandinavian designers.

That dress...

Yesterday, I read a blogpost over at Forty Not Out about "That dress...". It's about finding a gorgeous dress which one really can't give up thinking about, while debating with oneself as to whether one should fork out the fairly high cost of it or not.

My first reaction was: Gosh! I could've written that post myself. The exact same thing happened to me last fall. I spied the Diane von Furstenberg "Jeanne" wrapdress Elle McPherson is wearing below in an ad in American Vogue:

When I saw the ad, I immediately went to the DVF online shop to look for it. Yes, there it was in all it's glory - at a total cost (including shipping and import duty) of NOK 3600 (USD 600). Now, if I had been working, I probably would've gotten it anyway. However, being a student at the UIO I really don't use much designer clothes when attending lectures or studying at the library, so I found the price a bit too stiff for a garment I wouldn't be using that often.

But I bided my time and just after Christmas, during the January sales, I turned to my old friend Ebay to look for it. BINGO! A highend designer seller with a 100% feedback record had it in my size for half price - new with tag!

Btw, have I mentioned I love Ebay? ;)

Oslo Fashion Week - here I come!

I WON!

I can't believe my luck - I got home today after a stint in the swimming pool, opened my mail and there it was:

And as if that wasn't enough, a friend forwarded an invitation to another fashion show, tomorrow, in Steen og Ström, one of Oslo's largest department stores, where we'll be seeing spring trends from among others: Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren, Hermès, Burberry, Diesel and Tiger of Sweden.

Better make sure my camera battery is fully charged!
