The beauty Oscars

Now this is interesting!

British newspaper The Daily Mail has assembled a team of beauty experts to select the most outstanding beauty products of 2009. Getting expert advice about great products is always appreciated, and in this story there were two products that immediately made it to my wishlist.

Let's take the wallet-friendly one first:

The jury calls the L'Oréal Studio Secrets Professional Primer the best product in a supporting role. Apparently, it sold out completely when it was launched in the UK last June. This is supposed to be one of the best primers around, smoothing wrinkles and flaws instantly, disguising open pores and can be used both alone or under foundation. I like the sound of that. Especially combined with the very reasonable price of GBP 11.99.

On to the higher end of L'Oréals vast range of products:

The Lancôme Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate serum wins for the best technical excellence. According to the story, this is Lancôme's most successful skincare product in the company's 75-year old history. It contains cell boosters that activates the skin's own growth factors, and it says it took ten years to create. That's like forever, beauty product-wise, considering how often the beauty industry turns out products that are "new and improved". Makes you wonder if they lied when the products were first released, since they need improvements all the time. But that's a digression. Back to the verdict: Apparently, this serum makes skin smoother, more radiant and lines less visible. Wrinkles are supposed to lessen with continued use, and that is claimed to be the reason this product has been such a huge hit.

My skin hasn't been the same after the chemo treatment, and I'm desperatly looking for something to help it regain some radiance. At GBP 52.50 it doesn't come cheap, but hey, considering the rave reviews it definitely sounds worthy of a try before I succumb to more radical (and costly) treatments.

Have you tried any of these? Got any opinions? Tips about products you think work even better? If so, I'll be happy to hear about it.

  1. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I'm enjoying discovering yours and can't wait to go back to catch up.

I work in the beauty industry, I'm a cosmetic product developer, so I'm loving this post :) I've tried the Lancome Genifique and it's a good product. How is your skin now after chemo? My friend had chemo and her skin was extremely dry, sensitive and was also chapped and peeled. I could offer some suggestions if you tell me a little more. Feel free to email me if you'd prefer :)

  2. Heyya!

Sounds like you have a very exciting job!

Thanks for your offer of advice. My skin has gone from normal to very dry. It's made worse by using a prescription skin cream called Aberela (that's the brand name in Norway, don't know if it's the same overseas) to remove the pigmentation. The dryness causes the wrinkles around the eyes to become deeper and the skin in general to appear very tight. I use tons and tons of moisturizer with SPF15+ and moisture masks at least once a week, but it only helps for a short time.
