The great outdoors

The most beautiful day in Oslo so far this side of the winter? Not a cloud in the sky, no wind and a few degrees (C) below zero. My plan had been to go swimming at the Bislet Bad today, but when I woke up to the sunny weather this morning my first thought was I gotta get outside!

Checking out the activites of DNT

Ten minutes by the tube from central Oslo one gets to Sognsvann (the Sogn Lake). A year round popular outdoor area with Oslo residents - swimming in summer, skiing in winter and trekking anytime - even with "half the city" being there, there's still no lack of space. Den Norske Turistforening (The Norwegian Trekking Association) was organising the national "Get Outside Day", so there were a great number of activities there - among others igloo building, campfires and skiing competitions for children. Very popular with both the two- and fourlegged:

I did a brisk walk around the (now frozen) lake, a tour of around 3,5 kilometres (approx 2 miles), enjoying the view:

Idyllic, snow covered forest

Frozen leaves

Yes, of course I know I'm the poshest creature in this crowd!

No trekking trip is complete without a snack break:

So, today's training ended up "in the snow" instead of in the water. With this weather, totally worth it!

Wearing: Peak Performance Supreme Ski Jacket, Bergans Breheimen trekking pants, Burberry cashmere scarf, grey beanie from Accessorize, Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses and trekking shoes so old I think the brand no longer exists.
